Kolob Regional Care and Rehabilitation of Cedar City (or name of care facility) is a Center of Excellence for rehabilitation services. A variety of health care professionals work with patients during their rehabilitation stay. This list includes nurse case managers, physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathology therapists, dieticians and nutritionists, social workers, recreation therapists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants. This professional interdisciplinary team is committed to ensure that all of your needs are being fulfilled in an optimal and expeditious manner.

Physical Therapist: A physical therapist will assist in developing, maintaining and restoring optimal physical function, independence and quality of life. A physical therapist will help to correct strength and balance issues that have made it difficult for you to function at home and in the community. The goal is to restore normal movement and function while attempting to resolve problems such as pain, muscle weakness, loss of motion/balance or lack of coordination.

Physical Therapy provides treatment for: Skilled training for patients, family, and caregivers to improve ambulation skills, functional mobility, transfer ability, flexibility, balance, strength and stair training. Assessing, obtaining and training in the safe use of devices such as canes, wheelchairs, prosthetics, walkers, orthotics, and exercise aides. Methods used to reach the greatest level of independence are: ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, heat & cold therapy, fall prevention, and strengthening of muscles through therapeutic exercise.

Occupational Therapist: An occupational therapist will help in evaluating and increasing your ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, bathing, getting up from a chair or out of bed, grooming, self-feeding along with other independent living skills. The therapist also conducts a “home safety evaluation” to insure the home is safe and conducive to the needs of the patient.

Speech-Language Pathologist: A speech-language pathologist will assist in the process of assessing and rebuilding speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing difficulties. The therapist will develop a plan aimed at increasing your ability to communicate and help you overcome any issues related to swallowing.
